Next time you are visiting the beach, take note of the new Beach Emergency Number (BEN) signs.

BEN signs are being installed along the West Australian coast at public beach access points. Some signs will also be located at harbours and estuaries, boat ramps, fishing platforms and jetties.

Each sign displays a unique code which, when provided to emergency services, gives them specific beach access location information.

Not all beaches will have BEN signs installed but there is an app you can use. The Emergency+ App uses GPS to help a triple zero caller provide critical location details to emergency services. It is free to download at iTunes and Google Play.
