The new TrailsWA mobile phone app for iphone lets users find trails and plan outdoor adventures in Western Australia by putting trails in the palm of your hand

People can now plan their trail adventures in Western Australia at the touch of a button following the release of the Trails WA mobile app.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob said the app was the latest in a range of online and mobile resources being rolled out by the State Government to assist people in planning their camping and recreation experiences in national parks and reserves.

“The Trails WA app will help people find out more about walking, cycling, mountain biking, four-wheel-driving, horse riding, snorkelling and paddling trails across the State,” he said.

“We are seeing more demand from tourists and locals to explore our wonderful natural areas, and it is important that we equip people with useful information in a modern, accessible way.”

Mr Jacob said the app would help prepare people before embarking on their trail adventures.

“Trails can be filtered and sorted by location, trail experience, trail type, time and level of difficulty, meaning there is something for everyone and people can discover all the amazing trails we have on offer here in WA,” he said.

“Importantly, the app will include alerts for park, trail and road closures, bushfire alerts and road condition reports, and people can also report problems or issues about trails.”

The app was developed in partnership between Trails WA and the Department of Parks and Wildlife with support from the Department of Sport and Recreation. It is part of the $21.05 million, four year Royalties for Regions-funded Parks for People initiative that is expanding camping and visitor experiences in parks and reserves throughout Western Australia.

The Trails WA app is a companion to the Trails WA website.

The app can be downloaded from the app store
