Students are encouraged to apply for the Nature Based Recreation and Tourism Research Award. The Nature Based Recreation and Tourism Research Committee provides seed funding, in the form of an award, up to the amount of $5000 to support approved research projects. These funds may then be used as leverage for funds from other grant bodies. A student profile is also provided on the DPaW website highlighting the research.
Criteria for the Award
Projects are assessed against six criteria as follows:
- DPaW priority (research that improves the understanding of the relationship between people and protected areas)
- Research quality
- Relevance/practical application
- Capacity/opportunity to attract supplementary funding
- Provides new knowledge
- Appropriate university/department supervision and management.
