Welcome
Previous Pause Next

The Tree-in-the-Rock picnic area, set among the karri trees, almost has the feel of a cathedral, with the towering karris providing the domed roof.

The Tree-In-The-Rock, after which the site has been named, is just 100 metres along a shaded walk.  Extending its roots down through a crevice, this mature karri clings to existence on a granite boulder. Karri and marri are the most dominant trees in this area, while karri hazel, karri wattle and tassel bush form part of the understorey. Australian Bluebell can be recognised by its small bell-like mauve flowers from October to February.

Bolganup Heritage Trail

Climbing to the highest peak in the Porongurup Range, the Devil's Slide Trail has magnificent views across the park, north to the Stirling Range and south to the ocean from the summit. Marabup Rock is a further two kilometres return along the trail. Allow extra time.

Follow Wansbrough Walk for 1.6 km, then turn to the right. The trail can be linked to the Nancy Peak Walk for a full day excursion across the top of the range.

Wansbrough Walk

This delightful walk through karri forest rises gradually up the valley between Nancy Peak and Devils Slide. It continues more steeply downhill to the park's southern boundary where it becomes a road that connects with Millinup Road. Some visitors leave a second vehicle at the southern end of the pathway and start at Tree-in-a-Rock.

Distance: 4km one way, 8 km return Trail classification: Class 4  Time: 2-3 hours return
