Access to nature north of Perth

Stop at one of the many points along the one-way drive around the Pinnacles Desert. The Pinnacles Desert Discovery has displays, soundscapes and videos. There are designated parking bays, unisex accessible toilets and sealed paths. The Pinnacles View Lookout concrete path has gradients up to 1:10. Parks and Wildlife Jurien Bay, (08) 9688 6000. 

Drive the 18.5km bitumen Lesueur Scenic Drive which has regular stopping points. At Drummonds there are interpretive signs and a 250m trail to Wilson Lookout that is sealed and low gradient. Stop at Cockleshell Gully  with designated parking, accessible toilets and hardened paths at both sites. Parks and Wildlife Jurien Bay, (08) 9688 6000. 

See the gorge views from the fabulous new Kalbarri Skywalk, Nature’s Window and The Loop parking area, Hawks Head and the Ross Graham lookout and soaring sea cliffs from Red Bluff, Natural Bridge and Island Rock. There are designated parking bays, unisex accessible toilets and sealed paths at these sites, but no toilets at Red Bluff and Island Rock. A 1.2km section of the Bigurda Trail between Natural Bridge and Island Rock has sealed paths and an 800m boardwalk. Parks and Wildlife Geraldton, (08) 9964 0901.

The Monkey Mia Visitor Centre has interpretive displays. There is designated parking, unisex accessible toilets and sealed paths throughout the site. The beach is accessible on a 1:14 timber ramp and you can borrow a beach wheelchair with large pneumatic tyres that can be immersed in water from the visitor centre at no charge.  Monkey Mia Visitor Centre, (08) 9948 1366.

The Peron Heritage Precinct is accessible by two-wheel drive with a small interpretive centre, self-guided walk on compacted limestone paths, unisex accessible toilet, change room and ‘hot tub’ with water from the homestead artesian bore. If you want to venture further, a high clearance four-wheel drive is essential. The Big Lagoon campground has hardened camp sites, accessible toilets and compacted paths. Drive on sealed roads all the way to Yardie Creek. Along the way, stop off at Milyering Discovery Centre for information and interpretive displays of the parks. There is designated parking, and accessible toilets. Check out Turquoise Bay, Sandy Bay and Yardie Creek where you will find designated parking, unisex toilets and hardened paths. If you like to camp, check out the facilities at Kurrajong and Osprey Bay campgrounds. Three beach wheelchairs are available to use. One is at Coral Bay and two are available at the Milyering Discovery Centre. Millstream Homestead is a 1920’s era, ex-pastoral station homestead that has a parking area, hardened paths throughout the site, unisex accessible toilet and shower and picnic facilities. The Homestead Walk is a 750m long interpretive loop trail. There are bridges and seats along the way and most of the trail surface is compacted, however some areas can get boggy and loose after rain. The Karijini Visitor Centre has world-class interpretive displays and is managed by local Aboriginal people. There is designated parking, accessible toilets and showers. Karijini Visitor Centre, (08) 9189 8121.

Danggu Geikie Gorge boat tours take place from May to October and the boat, Ms Casey Ross, can accommodate people in wheelchairs. There is a charge for the boat tour with concessions.
